Scare Me Blogfest!

Scare me blogfest sponsored by Sci Media.
Scariest book(s)
It's rare for a book to scare me, so when one does, I remember it. I'm more of a visual person, so reading doesn't typically have the same effect on me as watching a film. If I get engrossed in a book enough to scare me, that means it's a pretty good book. Only a few books have scared me. I've listed my choices below.

Weekend Movie Picks

'Cloud Atlas'
Who will be going to see 'Cloud Atlas' this weekend? The visuals are breathtaking, but the reviews are mixed. I've read reviews saying that 'Cloud Atlas' is bold and colossal. I've also read reviews saying it's unimaginative and absurd. I'm going to give this film and the Wachowskis the benefit of the doubt. But woe to the Wachowskis if they disappoint me again. I really hated the 'Matrix' sequels. I hope they get this one right. 'Cloud Atlas' is now showing everywhere. Here's the latest review at Beyond Hollywood.

Craig, Daniel Craig

If you like Bond as much as I do, then you'll want to check this out. You can watch 15 minutes of behind the scenes footage of 'Skyfall,' the latest Bond film starring Daniel Craig.

I've been a Bond fan since I was too young to watch it, so I will go see 'Skyfall' regardless of the reviews. However, the latest iteration of the Bond franchise has been generating major buzz. The new film is directed by Sam Mendes, director of 'American Beauty' and 'Road to Perdition.' As always the film includes an all-star cast: Javier BardemJudi DenchNaomie HarrisRalph FiennesAlbert Finney, and Ben Whishaw.

Yay, The 'Justice League' Movie Is Happening!

No more Lois Lane. Superman's new love interest is Wonder Woman.
If anyone knows me, they know that I'm a huge DC fan (Detective Comics). I love Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. Whereas, Spider Man is ...eh...ok. Marvel fans, you'll be glad to know that my husband is a huge Marvel fan. We have quite a few spirited debates. So when I read that Warner Brothers is preparing to do a Justice League movie, I got excited...and scared.

Did I Notice Your Book Blogfest?

Blogfest sponsored by Ciara Knight and Alex Cavanaugh.
I don't know if this book will qualify, but this is the book that I'm currently reading. I've been really enjoying it so far. My choice is '2312' by Kim S. Robinson. '2312' is a unique love story for the hardcore scifi fan. It's set in a time when humanity has escaped the earth and terraformed the surrounding planets within the solar system. "They would leave the system altogether, but physics forbids." A full review can be seen in the Guardian. It's brilliant...seriously brilliant.

J'adore Sean Bean

Sean Bean as Boromir in 'Fellowship of the Ring'
Sean Bean is the man. He's so much more manly than Chuck Norris. In fact, Sean Bean dies in every movie (or show) he's in. It's inevitable. The enigmatic Bean has died so many times I've lost count. Mind you, most of his roles have been bad guys, but he's still endearing enough to play lovable and loyal characters like Ned Stark in 'Game of Thrones' or Boromir in 'Lord of the Rings.'

Radar Fail

Ok how did I miss this one? This trailer has been out for a while now. Where was I? I could have made fun of this trailer months ago.

The trailer for '7500' looks really stupid. Somewhere on Flight '7500' an unwanted monstrous passenger lurks on the plane. Seriously? 'Snakes on a Plane' was one thing. That was a campy spoof, but a serious creature feature on a plane? I'm not saying that horror films in tight quarters can't work. Take the film 'Devil' for example, which was set in the confines of an elevator. That filmed worked and it worked well. Likewise, both 'The X-Files' and 'Supernatural' had episodes of supernatural creatures on a plane. But something in '7500' isn't clicking.

Eat This, Not That

It turns out that the new show I'm most excited about is not at all science fiction or horror related. At first glance I thought it would be 'Revolution' or '666 Park Avenue.' After all 'Revolution' has a scifi flare and a pedigree that includes Eric Kripke (Supernatural) and J.J. Abrams (Star Trek and Allias). '666 Park Avenue' was supposed to be the next 'American Horror Story.' But nope. 'Revolution' is "all fur coat, no knickers," as the phrase goes. And '666 Park Avenue' was poorly written and worst of all...boring.
