Fare Thee Well 'Burn Notice'

The American James Bond

I love James Bond. I remember watching 'From Russia with Love' on my father's BetaMax tapes in the early 80's. Sean Connery was so debonair, so intriguing, so handsome. I was too young to understand what sex appeal was, but Sean Connery was my first crush and the first James Bond I ever loved. Of course I quickly got over my crush when I saw him in 'The Untouchables.' 'The Untouchables' is a great movie, but as a little girl I didn't quite understand the passage of time or that 'From Russia with Love' was filmed in the early 1960s. Whereas I was watching a BetaMax tape in the mid-1980s. I certainly didn't understand why Sean Connery was suddenly bald, greying, and overweight. Needless to say, my crush ended there, but my love of spy films and shows did not.

Hilarious "Honest" Trailer From Screen Junkies

Screen Junkies
Screen Junkies got this one right in their 'honest trailer' segment. Admittedly, I enjoyed 'Star Trek: Into the Darkness,' but there were quite a few glitches. One being a pointless scene with the lovely Alice Eve in her undies. Seriously, what was the point? I'm not a prude, but I still don't get it. It made no sense. In fact, even the screenwriter I love to hate, Damon Lindelof ('Lost,' 'Prometheus,' and now 'Star Trek: Into the Darkness') admitted that the scene was absurd. See his apology. Whatev... Check out Screen Junkie's trailer. It's a hoot.

RIP Lee Thompson Young

Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor) and Lee Thompson Young (Cyborg)
Up and comer, Lee Thompson Young, best known for his role on 'Rizolli and Isles,' recently committed suicide. As a scifi fan, I know Young from 'Smallville' and 'Flash Forward.' Young had a recurring role as Cyborg on 'Smallville.' According to police reports, no drugs or alcohol were involved. Some reports have indicated that Young suffered from depression. Such a sad end for such a promising, dynamic, young actor. He will be missed. RIP and Godspeed.

Has 'True Blood' Gone Off The Rails?

This artist is incredible. Check out Nathalief87 Deviant Art or Society 6.
After watching last night's crazed episode, I firmly believe that this show has finally gone off the rails. It jumped the shark years ago, but now the train has fallen off the tracks and is hastily speeding towards its demise. You can see a full review of Sunday's episode on io9. I simply cannot bring myself to write a full review of this show. It's just too much to bear.

Unhappily Ever After

This piece has been around for a few years, but somehow I never came across it. Provocateur Dina Goldstein has transformed Disney princesses into "real life" caricatures. The piece is an artistic response to the "happily ever after" moniker. After all, life is not a Disney movie. Prince Charming doesn't necessarily swoop in and save the day. Real women face real world challenges that Disney princesses don't face. The piece is cleverly shot through the opiate lens of make believe. The photographs are provocative and purposely so. Goldstein's intent is to illicit an emotion from the viewer: humor, sadness, disgust, anger, etc. Some folks may take offense and admittedly a few of these pictures are offensive. But occasionally art is offensive or it wouldn't be art. You can see Goldstein's inspiration and a full interview on Cargoh or see Goldstein's website for more.

Do We Really Need A New 'Poltergeist?'

The original 'Poltergeist' cast.
According to the 'The Wrap,' Sam Rockwell is the new Craig T. Nelson in Sam Raimi's 'Poltergeist' remake. What was once rumor is now confirmed. The 'Poltergeist' remake is a definite "go." They've already announced that Rosemarie DeWitt will be the new JoBeth Williams. Gil Kenan, director of 'Monster House,' (yes 'Monster House') will direct. No other cast has been rumored or confirmed.

The End Of Blockbusters?

Barnes and Noble. Every time I visit a Barnes and Noble or search the Kindle library on my iPad, I come across thousands upon thousands of quality books that would make great movies. This same thought enters my mind when I see yet another unimaginative Hollywood blockbuster full of obnoxious CGI or based on a comic book. Mind you I am a comic book fan. But how many times do I have to see super beings knock down computer generated buildings? How many billowing explosions do I have to watch before my bathroom break? How much CGI can I absorb while shoveling handfuls of popcorn and raisinets in my mouth? And lastly, just how many times can a franchise be rebooted in one decade?
