Mount Rushmore of Movies - 4 Favorite Male Characters in Space

Thanks to M.Brown over at Two Dollar Cinema for hosting the Mount Rushmore of Movies Bloghop in honor of President's Day. In order to participate you have to chose 4 of anything cinematic that you think is worthy to be on Mount Rushmore. The bloghop is still open as of today, so head over there if you want to join. I have chosen four of my favorite male characters in space. Three out of four films have to do with astronauts. Superman is of course the ultimate astronaut, sans the space suit.

The 17 Most Ridiculous Things on 'The Walking Dead' + Spoilers

Via Uproxx
I preface this post by saying that I really enjoy this show. In fact I'm a total fan girl. I've read all of the comics, including the most recent ones and I've defended this show to haters many times before. But even I have had to scratch my head and say, "uh, that doesn't make any sense." Most of these scenes are exclusive to the television series and were not in the comics. To be fair, it should come as no surprise that human behavior is complicated and sometimes non-sensical. People do stupid stuff in the real world, so why wouldn't they do stupid stuff in the zombie apocalypse?

The Red Wedding - Lego Style

Via Lego Literature
After the release of the very successful 'Lego Movie,' Legos are suddenly all the rage...again. (I remember playing with these in 1985, but everything eventually comes 'round again). Now some enterprising Lego fan has come up with the novel concept of reenacting famous film and television scenes with Legos of course. My favorite reenactment has to be the Red Wedding from the 'Game of Thrones.' If you haven't seen Season 3 of 'Game of Thrones' or read the third book in the series, 'A Storm of Swords,' then DON'T SCROLL DOWN. See Lego Literature's blog for the rest of the movies scenes. It's worth the click!

I am not a squishy mushy Valentine's Day person, but I love any reason to see my favorite characters in silly Valentine's Day poses. Enjoy. Have a nice weekend folks.

'Monuments Men' Review + Spoilers

MONUMENTS MEN
Directed by GEORGE CLOONEY
Starring GEORGE CLOONEY, MATT DAMON, CATE BLANCHETT, BILL MURRAY,
BOB BALABAN, JOHN GOODMAN, and JEAN DUJARDIN

'Monuments Men' is based on the novel of the same name by Robert Esdel and is described as the "greatest treasure hunt in history." This may not be far from the truth. I could never imagine a world without artistic masterpieces such as the Mona Lisa, Michelangelo's David, Picasso, or da Vinci's Last Supper, but that was exactly what was at stake. I remembered reading about the recent discovery of 1,500 art pieces found in the Munich apartment of Cornelius Gurlitt. Gurlitt was the son of Hildebrand Gurlitt, who was an art dealer during the Nazi regime. It was determined that a large portion of this art was likely stolen by the Nazis from private Jewish collectors who were no doubt killed in concentration camps. Gurlitt's hidden stash is an ugly reminder of this atrocious time in history and why the 'Monuments Men' were needed in the first place.

INSIDE 'GAME OF THRONES' SEASON 4 + SPOILERS

Production Design Featurette - Season 4

Watch a behind the scenes look at 'Game of Thrones' with Production Designer Deborah Riley. Riley created (COUNT THEM) 104 new sets for 'Game of Thrones' Season 4. This doesn't include all of the old standby sets. The featurette is only about 2-1/2 minutes long, but well worth the watch. The set designs and visual landscapes are unlike anything else on television right now. It should come as no surprise that each episode of 'Game of Thrones' cost somewhere around $6 million to make.

'Quest for Fire' Review

This is the first movie in the Blind Spot Series sponsored by TheMatinee.ca. There is still time to join so please see his website for details. For the remainder of the year, I will be highlighting a movie that I have never seen before, thus a "blind spot." You can see my Blind Spot list in my right hand sidebar. 'Quest for Fire' is the first movie on my list. I guess I find it fitting to start with a movie about prehistory. I missed the last Tuesday in January, so I'm playing catch up. I'm posting this on the first Tuesday in February. My next post will be on the last Tuesday in February ('Attack of the 50 ft. Woman' in honor of Valentine's Day of course).

QUEST FOR FIRE
Directed by JEAN-JACQUES ANNAUD
Starring EVERETT MCGILL, RON PEARLMAN, and RAE DAWN CHONG
Written by GERARD BRACH
Based on the novel by J.H. ROSNEY SR.

R.I.P. Philip Seymour Hoffman

Someone on Twitter said it best, it's disheartening to see one of your favorite actors trending only to find out that they've passed away. It was especially disheartening to see that Philip Seymour Hoffman passed away today. I'm convinced that most actors in Hollywood are merely pretty faces with a little bit of dramatic training and a LOT of luck. Hoffman was the opposite. Hoffman was immensely talented and by his own admission, not traditionally handsome. Hoffman no doubt had to work doubly hard to achieve the success that he eventually did.
