Tom Cruise as Tom Cruise...again, Khal Drogo as Lobo, & She-Hulk Diss

When watching a preview of the new Tom Cruise film, 'Edge of Tomorrow,' I'm reminded that Cruise essentially plays the same character in every movie. Cruise is one of the most typecasted actors. If Cruise is in a film, one thing can be guaranteed-- his character is a strong-willed, moral, yet troubled man, down on his luck, but has the will to overcome, blah blah blah. It doesn't leave a lot of room for creativity.

The crazy thing is that Cruise is actually a good actor. His roles in 'Interview with the Vampire' and 'Rock of Ages' are proof of that. So why doesn't Cruise challenge himself more? I know that he's an a-lister, but similar a-list actors have had much more diverse careers. I for one would like to see Cruise stretch himself in films like 'Collateral.' My favorite Cruise role continues to be 'Interview.' Given Cruise's career trajectory that's not likely to change. I guess we should be thankful, at least he's not pulling a "Nick Cage."

King of Monsters - Godzilla Review [Spoilers]

Via Etsy
GODZILLA
Directed by GARETH EDWARDS
Starring BRYAN CRANSTON, AARON TAYLOR-JOHNSON, ELIZABETH OLSEN,
JULIETTE BINOCHE, and KEN WATANABE

If you are a 'Godzilla' fan, then this is film you have been waiting for. Director Gareth Edwards has returned 'Godzilla' to its rightful place. 'Godzilla' isn't just a big lizard climbing buildings in New York City. Godzilla is a force of nature--a primordial beast that can quite literally shake mountains, cause earthquakes, and bring on tsunamis. The 2014 film has effectively eradicated the bad taste in my mouth from Roland Emmerich's 1998 film. The film starts on a slow burn, which is something that Edward's excels at. Edward's last film, 'Monsters' had a similar buildup. Unlike 'Godzilla,' 'Monsters' was made on a shoestring budget. Now Edwards has $160 million to work with.

New 'Gotham' Series, 'Godzilla' Growth Chart, + Cool Stuff!

Via Neatorama
See how 'Godzilla' has grown through the years. Yes I'm a little obsessed with 'Godzilla' right now, but I'd rather see a million Godzilla's than the new monstrosity from Bryan Singer, 'X-Men: Days of Future Past.' And no, I'm not referring to Singer's recent legal troubles. I never comment on such things. I have not liked Bryan Singer for years. Singer routinely butchers comics, throws them in the trash, then proceeds to burn them. He also has no brand loyalty. He is open to destroying both Marvel and DC Comics alike. I do like Marvel ok, but I'm a DC fan through and through. If you're a comic book fan, you will eventually develop some sense of brand loyalty or preference. Ergo, Singer is not a comic book fan, and he has said as much. Hugh Jackman said that Singer banned comics on the sets he works on. I don't know. It's kinda important to know the source material in my opinion. It doesn't have to be exact, but it should capture the spirit the comic book. A good balanced example is Joss Whedon's 'Avengers.'
