'Almost Human' Gets Canned, Halle Berry Comes to SciFi + Links

Let there be no doubt that Fox Television hates science fiction and I hate Fox. I speculated last fall that only one of Fox's new science fiction/fantasy shows would survive: 'Sleepy Hollow' or 'Almost Human.' I wasn't sure which one would make it, but I knew only one would. I call it the "Fox Thunderdome." Two shows walk in and only one comes out.

I originally thought 'Sleepy Hollow' was more likely to be chopped, namely because 'Almost Human' had some big names behind it--Karl Urban and J.J. Abrams. But 'Sleepy Hollow' proved to be quirky and creative, which earned it a fast fan base. The futuristic show 'Almost Human' started slow, but ended well with decent ratings. I'm especially confused because 'The Following' had similar ratings, but somehow managed a renewal. Needless to say, fans have been raging for the last few days. Of course a petition has been created. It would be delightful if the SyFy Channel picked up the show, but the likelihood of that is nil to null. SyFy is more interested in wrestling these days.

So alas, 'Almost Human' joins many science fiction shows that have debuted on Fox before it, including 'Terra Nova,' 'John Doe,' 'Space Above and Beyond,' 'The Sarah Connor Chronicles,' and most notably 'Firefly.' It's especially disheartening to know that Karl Urban will not return to television after this experience. Urban said he worked 17 hour days and spent six months away from his family. Oh Karl Urban.  Oh Karl. Yes, I'm a fan girl.

News
The 'Supernatural' spinoff looks bad, really bad. I'm a big 'Supernatural' fan, so this saddens me to say. 'A Men of Letters' Spinoff would have been much more fun.

With the success of 'Orphan Black' it's no surprise that another clone series is coming to television, appropriately titled 'Clone.' The series is being produced by 'The Walking Deads' Robert Kirkman.

Halle Berry comes to SciFi on a new television show produced by Steven Spielberg, called 'Extant.' Check out the trailer

    1. Francis-- How true, how true. It was a great show. Just another scifi show on fox unfortunately.

  2. I'm not at all surprised Halle is making the switch to TV. She's probably better suited for the small screen. She hasn't been able to get worthy scripts lately, but this will make her relevant again, if the show is any good.

    Thanks for the link!

    1. You're welcome! Yes, I believe Halle Berry's return to the small screen is a good thing. Television is much more respected than it used to be. Now even movie stars are doing Netflix series like Kevin Spacey.

  3. That's the old style Adams Family house - cool.
Really sucks about Almost Human. I liked that show. Damn you, FOX!

  4. The Following is getting 3rd season? How is that even possible? My God that show is such a waste of Kevin Bacon's time.

    1. Sati--You are so right. The Following would have been an ok mini-series, but a full fledged series? Nope.

  5. Thank you for linking for my post! Almost Human seemed a little too slow for me. Sadly even though it had hottie Karl Urban, I had to eventually bow out from watching. I'm not exactly sure why Sleepy Hollow is so popular. It seemed to fit way too much worldbuilding into every episode; some of it didn't fit. The actors are good though.
Holy crap, I'm excited for that Halle Berry show - it may be because she looks awesome or it reminds me of Gravity. :P

    1. You're welcome! Admittedly 'Almost Human' did start slow. It took a few episodes for me to get into it. In the interest of full disclosure I'm a total Karl Urban fan girl, so I'll watch him in pretty much anything. I'm w/ on 'Sleepy Hollow.' I like the show ok, but I'm not a fan of the lead actress.

Yes! I agree. Halle Berry really reminded me of Sandra in 'Gravity' for a quick sec. I hope it's a decent show.

  6. FOX!!!!!!*Shakes fist*
You do know that it was Fox that had the Doctor Who Movie, then never revitalised the series.

    1. David, thank you! That is such a good point. I totally forgot that it was Fox that debuted the Doctor Who movie. Thank goodness the BBC picked it back up. I would have hated to see a 'Doctor Who' on Fox.

  7. Thanks for the link! I feel bad for Sci Fi centered shows that aren't on the SyFy channel. They never get enough love, and I wish they would because I think more people would get into Sci Fi if they're just given the chance.

    1. You're welcome! I agree. Sometimes I feel bad for scifi shows that are on the scifi channel. Sometimes it doesn't seem to matter. Genre shows are so underappreciated.

  8. This really saddened me when I found out. I think Sleepy Hollow is okay, but this show had heart. I will miss the back and forth. I do so hate Fox.

    1. Brandon, I completely agree. 'Sleepy Hollow' is quirky, but 'Almost Human' was superbly written. Another victim of the Fox network.

  9. I'm not surprised by tthe cancellation, but it's ridiculous. The show was brilliant and had a black man as the co-star. Fox didn't help by showing the episodes out of order leaving some confusing moments. Poor Urban! He'll never do TV again. I'm surprised Halle Berry is doing television, but at leasts it's for Spielberg. Thanks for the links!

    1. I'm not either. I knew one of those shows would go. I just thought it would be sleepy hollow. I thought Michael Ealy was fantastic. He was the heart of the show. I really hope to see him back on television. He and Karl Urban had incredible chemistry.

I'll be watching for Halle. I hope her show does well.
