Speaking of 'Jurassic World,' check out the Cookie Monster's take on the original 'Jurassic Park.' Now that I'm a parent I have an excuse to watch this stuff.

Black Widow fans flash mobbed all around the world this past week in an effort to help studio execs get that we want to see a Black Widow film. Join the #WeWantWidow campaign on twitter if you can.
In my personal news, on Facebook I opened up a discussion about taking young children to "nice" restaurants. My husband and I recently went to Red Lobster. We quickly learned that dining with a young toddler is akin to dining out with a cave person. This started a debate as to whether or not to get a babysitter when going out to dinner. I could see hiring a babysitter if I was going to an uber fancy/expensive establishment, but I don't necessarily consider Red Lobster to be fine dining, but some people do, hence the discussion. I do like to take my child with us to dine out because we like to dine out as a family. We also arrive at restaurants for dinner around 4:30 p.m. (16:30) so we can get the heck out of there as soon as possible.

My Princess Leia |

I want to be clear that I don't think it's right to lie or be deceptive in order to advance a cause, however, it doesn't really bother me that she considers herself to be African American. I don't really care what people call themselves. Her lawsuits and lies are another matter, but I'm a little tired of the internet outrage. And I'm really tired of this woman filling up my Facebook feed. So if she wants to be African American, then let her. As you can see above my little daughter has strawberry blonde hair and she is part African American. Race is a social construct and doesn't really exist. Only one race--human.

There are some great 'Jurassic World' posts this week (Film Sketcher, Calvin, Sofia, and Courtney)
A blogathon caught my eye this week over at Girl Meets Cinema
Fisti has a great post about the cinematic year of 1962
I wrote a whole comment and it got erased. Here's the abridged version. Rachel can be any color she wants but lies too much. A black widow flash mob is awesome and thanks for the mention! :)
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! Ha, ha she sure does lie too much! She does look better with the spray tan though.
DeleteYeah the orange spray tan is a good look for her. :) BTW your daughter is beautiful and your Dad is awesome.
DeleteAwww, thanks Maurice!
DeleteMs. Dolezal can identify as whatever she wants. I'm cool with that. I'm not cool with all the BS she's done to purport her own myth nor her being one race or the other depending on how convenient the situation is.
ReplyDeleteLove the Black Widow flash mob.
I support finding a sitter when going to "nice" restaurants. It's not that I'm against kids at fine dining establishments. I'm okay with them going every now and again. Sometimes, it's just nice for mommy and daddy to just be husband and wife for a little while and enjoy each other's company, even if it's just for a short while.
Thanks so much for the link!
You're welcome! You're right. She shouldn't have lied. I don't agree with what she's done there, but I don't have a problem with someone wanting to identify as African American if that's what they choose. But she's got issues!
DeleteShe shouldn't have lied, but I have no problem with her leading that organization or identifying with it.
ReplyDeleteYes, Jurassic World is stupid.
I would've taken a girl dressed as Green Lantern to the prom!
Hi Alex! Thanks! I wish I had been that creative as a teen. I don't think geek culture was popular when I was a teen. Back then...being a geek was not cool!!
DeleteNo, she shouldn't have lied. She has some issues. The point I was making was that I don't have an issue if someone wants to identify as a different ethnic group.
Didn't Dolezal pretend that her half brother was her son or something like that to help with her myth? Admittedly, I was on vacation for a week so I missed most of what that scandal was.
ReplyDeleteYour daughter is so adorable! I'm all for sitters too. I'd never take my son to an upscale restaurant of any kind, but finding a sitter is hard, so mostly we just eat at normal restaurants and he comes with. Thank God for Netflix on phones.
I hate when people write articles trying to tear apart the science of movies. Who cares? This isn't a documentary we're talking about.
Thanks for the link! :)
Ha, I don't know. I have been trying not read about it. I'm just so tired of it filling up my news feed. I wish I was on vacation right now! I hope you're having a wonderful one.
DeleteThank you!! Yes, I will try not to take my daughter to an upscale restaurant. I was in a debate with some folks that I don't think Red Lobster qualifies, although some people disagree with me :)
You're welcome!
Oh my goodness how pretty is that Arrow-themed prom dress?! Love this post!
ReplyDelete- Allie
Thanks Allie!! I wish being a geek was cool back when I was in high school!
DeleteFirst...thanks for the link love!
ReplyDeleteSecond, I would totally dress up as Black Widow in a flash mob...but that's another story in it of itself :-P
I really need to see Mad Max.
And, the wife and I take our three children to restaurants all the time. I think the whole "don't go out to eat with kids" BS is from a bunch of single people or people with no kids who don't understand that your life doesn't have to end once you have children, and that they are not accessories you can just dump whenever you want. Babysitters are expensive and hard to come by, and there isn't always time to snag one last minute. Yes, I even take my kids to nice restaurants, and while sometimes they are loud or misbehave (and once I had my kids make a GIGANTIC mess at a sushi restaurant and it did embarrass me), for the most part they are fine, and people who don't understand that being together as a family and DOING things (yes, even eating out) with your kids is vital are just inexperienced and, basically, talking out of their ass.
Just wait till they have kids.
Yes, I'm opinionated when it comes to people who aren't parents having opinions about how you should parent. Basically, have a kid or shut the hell up.
LOL!
Ha, thank you Fisti! I felt like a lot of people are not understanding that I actually enjoy spending time with my child! I want our child with us when we go out to eat! I try my hardest to make her behave, but I'm not always successful. She's two!
DeleteThank you for the link Mariah! <3
ReplyDeleteI wasn't a comic book person before seeing Black Widow in Captain America: the Winter Soldier. That character changed my mind so much. I love seeing the #WeWantWidow campaign; it would be amazing to see an installment for her someday. Furiosa getting her own comic book is awesome. A lot of her story was inferred in the movie, so there isn't a lot left up to the imagination. I'd love to see how she became an Imperator to Joe. Mad Max is another series I can't wait to dive into.
Hi Katy! Yes, I was not a big Black Widow fan until I saw Winter Soldier either. She was awesome in that film. That was the film that made me want to see a Black Widow film. Furiousa was so awesome. I think I will pick that comic up. I'd love to know her backstory.
DeleteThose nesting dolls are absolutely adorable! Speaking of adorable, so is your precious princess! Thanks for the link :)
ReplyDeleteSure! Yes, we think she is adorable...but we are biased! Thank you!
DeleteThis Black Widow thing keeps escalating. Soon people will riot in the streets and rightfully so.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! I just read an article about how Marvel execs are afraid of a female-led action film. Despite the fact that several male-led action films tanked.
DeleteI haven't seen either Mad Max or Jurassic World. I don't go to the theater much because there's always someone making noise or playing with their phone nowadays. And tying this in to something you discussed here, more and more often people are bringing small children to movies rather than getting a babysitter. When I was a kid (old fogie alert!) my mother had to take me everywhere because she couldn't afford a babysitter. I was expected to sit quietly until it was time to leave. If I made noise and embarrassed my mother I would be in a world of hurt when we got home. This is a preface to say that in my opinion children should not be taken to public places such as restaurants, movie theaters, or any places adults gather, until they are old enough to understand that they have to behave and stay quiet.
ReplyDeleteThis was one of my experiences with a child in a movie theater - http://tipsfromchip.blogspot.com/2012/12/the-hobbit-or-pox-on-people-who-bring.html
Hi Chip! I think your mom and mine were cut from the same cloth. Ha, I understand! I used to feel the same way until I became a parent. However, movie theaters (except kids movies) are off limits for my little one. I will never forget sitting in a theater watching a horror movie next to a 3 year old. I don't know what that woman was thinking.
