Holla,' I Mean Scream

Directed by WES CRAVEN
Starring NEVE CAMPBELL, DAVID ARQUETTE, COURTNEY COX-ARQUETTE,
EMMA ROBERTS, HAYDEN PANETTIERE, and MARY MCDONNELL

Trailer

What can one do with the Scream franchise except clinch your teeth, close your eyes, and giggle.  The best thing about this franchise is that it doesn't take itself too seriously.  I remember when I saw the first film in 1996.  It wasn't your average horror flick.  Scream was a witty hybrid of When a Stranger Calls and the original Halloween.  Prior to 1996, horror films were in a downturn, in fact many went straight to video.  Scream single-handedly reinvigorated the horror franchise, not because Scream was so great, but because it turned the genre itself into a parody.   Of course the unintentional result of Scream were a slew of copycat films, including the (still terrible) I Know What you Did Last Summer, seven disgusting Saw films and two horrendous Hostels.  That said, Scream 4 is bloodier than the previous Scream films, as are most sequels, but it sticks to it's slasher roots.  There are no prolonged torture scenes or elaborate killing mechanisms, it's a simple formula-- a guy in a mask with a big knife.  I should note that there is a cameo at the beginning of the film and the two actresses need no introduction.

DOCTOR WHO COUNTDOWN - THIS POST IS REGULARLY UPDATED

'Doctor Who's Season 10 premiere date is likely to be sometime in the Spring of 2017. They never release the premiere date until the month before. So I guestimate that 'Doctor Who' season 10 will premiere Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 21:00 GMT+1 or 9:00 P.M. EST. Again, this is a guestimation based on previous release dates. I'm rarely exactly correct. If past predictions continue, it will be within two weeks of this date. That said, there is recent speculation that the show was delayed due to Steven Moffat's commitment to 'Sherlock.' Supposedly there has also been pressure for Moffat to step down. Please please Moffat let someone else have a go. It's time to let go of the reigns.

This Ain't No Hanna-Montana.

Directed by JOE WRIGHT
Starring SAOIRSE RONAN, CATE BLANCHETT, and ERIC BANA

Hanna is a good film and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It could have been better, but it could have been much, much worse. There have been so many terrible "assassin-in-training" films. In less careful hands, this film could have gone terribly wrong, but Hanna gets it right. It reminded me a lot of the original (and still the best) La Femme Nikita. The thing that Hanna get's right starts with the casting. Neither Eric Bana nor Cate Blanchett require any introduction in their respective roles. The always handsome, Eric Bana, plays Hanna's father, also named Erik. The breathtaking Cate Blanchett plays the film's villainess, Marissa Wiegler, a corrupt CIA agent. Seventeen year old actress, Saoirse Ronan, plays Hanna. Saoirse was previously known to audiences in Atonement and The Lovely Bones. She's somewhat ethereal in this film and very believable as rogue assassin Hanna.

Outsourced

Directed by DUNCAN JONES
Starring JAKE GYLLENHALL, MICHELLE MONAGHAN,
VERA FARMINGA, and JEFFREY WRIGHT

'Source Code' is solid through and through. I'm not a Jake Gyllenhaal fan but this was a good movie. I truly enjoyed it. It was well-written, well-done, and well-acted. The film also contains some hard sci-fi aspects, which I like. This movie is 'Quantum Leap' x's 'Groundhog Day' x's 'Under Siege 2.' Who would have thought of this combination? If only Hollywood used this kind of material more often.
