THIS IS HOW "THEY" WORK BLOGATHON

On June 29th I launched my very first blogathon based on Lifehacker's "This is How I Work" and "What's in My Bag" series.' Most blogathons I've participated in have been about movies or television. So for my first blogathon I didn't want another top 10 list. Instead I wanted to get the inside scoop on my fellow bloggers themselves and how they work. The results have been wonderful.

THIS IS "HOW I WORK" BLOGATHON

I occasionally receive emails from readers who want to know what programs I'm using or they're curious about how I work. So I have taken inspiration from the "How I Work" and "What's in My Bag" series' over a LifeHacker.com. I know that my blogger peeps post a lot about movies, television, and many other pop culture phenoms, but I would love more insight as to how my fellow bloggers work! What makes you tick, what programs and apps do you use, etc?

This is my first blogathon. I have never ever done this before! It's a little non-traditional in the sense that it is not focused on entertainment per se, but on the bloggers themselves. This blogathon is open to any and all types of bloggers. Please answer as few or as many of  the following questions as you see fit. If you'd like, please post a photo that you feel fits "YOU" and what you do. Photo is optional. Deadline is Tuesday, July 20th. Please sign up through the linky list after the "Read More" jump below. Thanks. Email me or tweet me when your entry is ready. Thanks!

What apps can you not live without?

Brittani has a really cool blogathon idea. Join in Brittani's blogathon of favorite movie titles (A through Z).  Rules 1.) List your favorite movie title with each letter of the alphabet. 2.) You don't necessarily have to like the movie to use its title. 3.) Use Brittani's banner at the top of the post. 4.)Have all submissions submitted by Friday, May 23, 2014. You can tweet Brittani at @ramblingfilm or send her an email at ramblingfilm@yahoo.com
Here is my submission of movie titles from A to Z. Admittedly, I like most of the movies on this list. Most, not all. Roll over the link to find out which movie I chose. You can click on the picture for more info about that movie.

New 'Gotham' Series, 'Godzilla' Growth Chart, + Cool Stuff!

Via Neatorama
See how 'Godzilla' has grown through the years. Yes I'm a little obsessed with 'Godzilla' right now, but I'd rather see a million Godzilla's than the new monstrosity from Bryan Singer, 'X-Men: Days of Future Past.' And no, I'm not referring to Singer's recent legal troubles. I never comment on such things. I have not liked Bryan Singer for years. Singer routinely butchers comics, throws them in the trash, then proceeds to burn them. He also has no brand loyalty. He is open to destroying both Marvel and DC Comics alike. I do like Marvel ok, but I'm a DC fan through and through. If you're a comic book fan, you will eventually develop some sense of brand loyalty or preference. Ergo, Singer is not a comic book fan, and he has said as much. Hugh Jackman said that Singer banned comics on the sets he works on. I don't know. It's kinda important to know the source material in my opinion. It doesn't have to be exact, but it should capture the spirit the comic book. A good balanced example is Joss Whedon's 'Avengers.'

'Fahrenheit 451' Review

The first film on my list was 'Quest for Fire,' the second blind spot was 'Attack of the 50'-Foot Woman,' the third blind spot was 'THX-1138.' This month's blind spot is 'Fahrenheit 451' (1966). Next month's blind spot is 'The Innocents' (1961).

'THX-1138' Review

'THX-1138' is the third film in the Blind Spot Series with TheMatinee.Ca. You can see my Blind Spot movies list in the right hand side bar. Blind Spots are films that I've never seen before and are posted on the last Tuesday of the month. The first film on my list was 'Quest for Fire,' the second blind spot was 'Attack of the 50'-Foot Woman.' I accidentally skipped 'Fahrenheit 451' (1966). So 'Fahrenheit 451' is now on my list for April!
Directed by GEORGE LUCAS
Starring ROBERT DUVALL, MAGGIE MCOMIE,
and DONALD PLEASANCE

I always enjoy watching science fiction movies from the 1960s and 1970s, not just because of the apparent visual differences, but also because of the social commentary. This may be debatable, but it seems like filmmakers in the 1970s were in some ways braver with regard to artistic expression. I'm sure there are exceptions, but somehow I doubt films like 'Alien,' 'The Exorcist,' 'Jaws,' 'THX-1138,' or on a lighter note, 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show,' would have been made had they not been made in the 1970s.

Spin-off Blogathon

Thanks to Sati, blogger extraordinaire, for hosting her first ever Blogathon. You can see more info about the blogathon here. Sati is hosting it until March 30th, so there's still time to join in if you'd like. The purpose of this blogathon is to choose a character you love and who you think deserves their own spin-off. What a great idea! My choice for a spin-off is Meredith Vickers (Charlize Theron) from 'Prometheus.'

Mount Rushmore of Movies - 4 Favorite Male Characters in Space

Thanks to M.Brown over at Two Dollar Cinema for hosting the Mount Rushmore of Movies Bloghop in honor of President's Day. In order to participate you have to chose 4 of anything cinematic that you think is worthy to be on Mount Rushmore. The bloghop is still open as of today, so head over there if you want to join. I have chosen four of my favorite male characters in space. Three out of four films have to do with astronauts. Superman is of course the ultimate astronaut, sans the space suit.

'Quest for Fire' Review

This is the first movie in the Blind Spot Series sponsored by TheMatinee.ca. There is still time to join so please see his website for details. For the remainder of the year, I will be highlighting a movie that I have never seen before, thus a "blind spot." You can see my Blind Spot list in my right hand sidebar. 'Quest for Fire' is the first movie on my list. I guess I find it fitting to start with a movie about prehistory. I missed the last Tuesday in January, so I'm playing catch up. I'm posting this on the first Tuesday in February. My next post will be on the last Tuesday in February ('Attack of the 50 ft. Woman' in honor of Valentine's Day of course).

Scare Me Blogfest!

Scare me blogfest sponsored by Sci Media.
Scariest book(s)
It's rare for a book to scare me, so when one does, I remember it. I'm more of a visual person, so reading doesn't typically have the same effect on me as watching a film. If I get engrossed in a book enough to scare me, that means it's a pretty good book. Only a few books have scared me. I've listed my choices below.

Did I Notice Your Book Blogfest?

Blogfest sponsored by Ciara Knight and Alex Cavanaugh.
I don't know if this book will qualify, but this is the book that I'm currently reading. I've been really enjoying it so far. My choice is '2312' by Kim S. Robinson. '2312' is a unique love story for the hardcore scifi fan. It's set in a time when humanity has escaped the earth and terraformed the surrounding planets within the solar system. "They would leave the system altogether, but physics forbids." A full review can be seen in the Guardian. It's brilliant...seriously brilliant.

Worst Movies Ever - Alex J. Cavanaugh Blogfest

A big thanks to Alex for hosting the blogfest!
As most of us bloggers know there are is a plethora of bad movies out there.  One would dare to say that there are more bad movies than good ones, which is why the good ones stand out so much. However, most bad movies have some redeemable quality: good effects, acting, action, visuals, etc. The movies I've listed below are completely beyond redemption, in my humble opinion.
