There are several new horror flicks coming to a theater near you. The scariest (in my opinion) is the haunted house flick 'Sinister' starring Ethan Hawke. Hawke stars as Ellison, a family man who finds old videos of the home's prior residents. What distinguishes 'Sinister' from other haunted house films, is that the house itself isn't haunted. The haunting is specific to certain object(s), namely the found footage. Thankfully this is not a found footage film like 'Paranormal Activity.' Check out the trailer. It looks truly frightening. Jeffrey Dean Morgan in 'The Possession'
'The Possession' is about another family man, Jeffrey Dean Morgan ('Watchmen', 'Supernatural') who's young daughter is possessed upon the purchase of an antique box. Morgan along with his ex-wife (Krya Sedgwick) come together to rid their daughter of this ancient curse. A film like this could easily go terribly wrong, but Sam Raimi is one of the producers. If anyone can do horror, it's Raimi. 'The Possession' may be the next 'Exorcist.' August 31, 2012
Cillian Murphy in 'Red Lights'
The next film is 'Red Lights,' starring Sigourney Weaver, Cillian Murphy, and Robert DeNiro. Weaver plays a psychologist Margaret Matheson investigating evidence of psychic activity. Cillian Murphy plays her physicist assistant. Robert DeNiro is a mysterious and possibly dangerous psychic. The trailer is intriguing, but not particularly descriptive. 'Red Lights' was screened at the Cannes Film Festival and released in Spain. There's hasn't been much publicity or positive reviews on this film, so in my opinion it's not looking good. Ashley Greene in 'The Apparition'
The least interesting new horror film is 'Apparition,' starring 'Twilight' darling Ashley Green. 'Apparition' is about a couple of unruly college students who conduct extreme paranormal experiments with disastrous results. 'Flatliners' anyone? August 24, 2012
