SyFy Prematurely Cancels Eureka

I'm just flabbergasted.  SyFy reassured Eureka fans last week that we would get an additional 6 episodes of Eureka next year, supposedly to finish up the series finale.  My how things change.  Four days later SyFy announces that not only will it renig on the 6 additional episodes, it will cancel the series all together.  The writing team has to wrap up the series with just the last remaining episodes and Christmas Special.

Clearly there was too much science fiction in this show, which couldn't have been good for SyFy's branding.  A show with five popular seasons, great characters, and story lines (based on science fiction) is just not the best fit.  Now they can schedule more wrestling, bad movies, and reality shows because that's what scifi fans really want.

Email SyFy (feedback@syfy.com) and Mark Stern (mark.stern@unistudios.com).

  2. Seriously. It's one of the few shows my husband and I watch together. It's one of the best shows on tv. SyFy loves it's wrestling I guess. Idk what happened to that channel.

  3. I went through the same thing with Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles on Fox. I had the hot robot chick door poster and lunch-box and everything. Went through a lot of whiskey for awhile after that...

  4. They end up doing this to every show I eventually like. They'll fill the slot with some ravaged production, I'm sure.

  5. SyFy is more miss than hit and I rarely watch it now, especially now.

  6. Never watched this series. The only Syfy series I try to watch now is Warehouse 13 :)

  7. I still don't claim to understand TV channel decision...I'm still bummed that more FireFly shows haven't been made :(

  8. @Sean Thomas-- I was so upset when they cancelled Sarah Connor. That was a great show. Fox has a worse track record than SyFy.

@Shockgrubz-- So true. No doubt some terrible reality show or wrestling.

@Angry Lurker-- They really are. Their two new shows, Alphas and Haven aren't good. I've really tried to give them both a chance, but both shows are *yawn*

@Jaccstev-- If you like Warehouse 13 then you'd like Eureka. I also enjoy Warehouse 13. That's the only other show of quality on that awful channel.

@Mark-- Fox will never live down their Firefly decision.

  9. I hadn't heard this yet. Hunh. I never watched the show until Netflix had the first 3 or 4 seasons available streaming then I sat down and watched them all in a few weeks. I haven't had a chance to watch the episodes that have been running this summer yet, but I've saved them for later.

  10. @Chip-- I think you'll really like it. It's one of the last few true science fiction based shows on television. It's really one of the most creative, well-acted shows on tv. I can't believe they didn't give it time to wrap up.
