Blonde Ambition - Hiddles as Thor!

 photo EVnKxJE.gif
Via Screen Crush
I consider this a filler post, but it's such a good filler. I couldn't resist posting a video of a blonde long-haired Tom Hiddleston auditioning as Thor. Yes, please. I think Chris Hemsworth was well cast as 'Thor,' and Hiddeston does make a much better Loki, but I could also picture Hiddleston as Thor. Hiddles can play anything. Yes, I'm a fan girl, but that doesn't mean I'm wrong. Hiddles is a versatile (and brilliant) actor. Admittedly, Loki is a much more complex character and one that Hiddleston can properly sink his teeth into. So hurray for Hiddleston in all his blonde glory. See full video description below. This little snippet was taken from the Blu-Ray DVD of 'Thor: The Dark World,' which releases on February 25, 2014.

Does Hollywood Hate 'Wonder Woman?'

Alex Ross' 'Wonder Woman'
We finally have a 'Wonder Woman' in the form of Gal Gadot. Gadot will play 'Wonder Woman' in the new 'Batman versus Superman' movie in 2016 (which has already been delayed) and will hopefully get her own feature film in the near future. Yay! Right? Well...the latter part is iffy. The standalone film has not yet been confirmed. So our best hope for seeing 'Wonder Woman' will be as a third wheel in a Zack Synder film. The same Zack Synder who did 'Sucker Punch.' Not so "yay."

Now the CW has recently announced that it is dumping the 'Amazon' television series before it begins. 'Amazon' was supposed to be an origins series for 'Wonder Woman,' similar to 'Smallville.' This is the second 'Wonder Woman' series to fall flat. There was also a NBC 'Wonder Woman' pilot in 2011 that was cancelled before it aired.

'RoboCop' Remake + New Clips

New 'RoboCop' Movie Poster
Sony Pictures has released several new clips of the new 'RoboCop' film. Admittedly I was skeptical at first, but the remake is slowly winning me over. I still don't think that the new film will be "better than the original," as some have claimed. Some reviewers are saying that the remake will be better because of the proliferation of CGI (computer generated imagery). On this I adamantly disagree. More CGI does NOT necessarily make a movie better. In fact, in my opinion, too much CGI does the opposite, because some directors are over reliant on CGI in lieu of the storyline. Too much CGI and a film can look like a video game that no one wants to play.

'Maleficent' Trailer Looks "Meh"

The 'Sleeping Beauty' Disney cartoon was one of my favorites as a child, so I was (am) really looking forward to the live action version called 'Maleficent.' After the success of the 'Wicked' franchise, 'Maleficent' is told from villain's point of view. Angelina Jolie plays the title role and her makeup and costuming looks absolutely fantastic. I wrote a blog post about it in 2012. I still have high hopes for this movie, but the trailer leaves much to be desired. It is just a teaser trailer, so I'm sure there is more to look forward to. The 'Snow White and the Huntsman' trailer looked awesome and the movie turned out to be 'meh.' So I'll take a bad trailer over a bad movie any day of the week.

Plot"Maleficent explores the untold story of Disney's most iconic villain from the 1959 classic Sleeping Beauty and the elements of her betrayal that ultimately turn her pure heart to stone. Driven by revenge and a fierce desire to protect the moors over which she presides, Maleficent (Jolie) cruelly places an irrevocable curse upon the human king's newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Aurora (Fanning) is caught in the middle of the seething conflict between the forest kingdom she has grown to love and the human kingdom that holds her legacy. Maleficent realizes that Aurora may hold the key to peace in the land and is forced to take drastic actions that will change both worlds forever." Via Disney.

'Doctor Who' Goodies

See Website
This week has been a busy 'Doctor Who' goodie week. I have come across three separate 'Doctor Who'-themed items that I just had to share! I've previously posted about a 'Doctor Who' bookcase, a 'Doctor Who' refrigerator (to keep your fish fingers and custard cold), a collapsible Tardis, and 'Doctor Who' miniatures. Today's 'Doctor Who' goodie is a Tardis Vortex door. I've seen lots of Tardis doors--too many in fact, but what makes this one unique is the painted vortex, which adds that extra flair.

New Series 'Penny Dreadful' + Teaser

I'm sure everyone has heard of the term "Penny Dreadful." I've used it myself on a occasion. In actuality, Penny Dreadful was never a person, but a thing. A Penny Dreadful was a fictional British publication in the 19th century that could be purchased for a penny. Similar to the pulp fiction publications of the 1940s, the Penny Dreadful's were not known for their literary quality, but were more sensational in nature. For example, the fictional character "Sweeney Todd" originated in a Penny Dreadful publication in the mid-1800s.

Gina Carano in 'Almost Human' + Minor Spoilers

Gina Carano on set of 'Almost Human' via Gina Joy Carano
Next week's episode will feature Gina Carano as some form of killer robot. My husband eeked with joy when he saw this week's preview with her in it. In my opinion, Carano would have made one heck of a 'Wonder Woman.' Although she's not that great of an actress, but that can be learned! Carano has the perfect physicality and demeanor of 'Wonder Woman.' Carano's 'Almost Human' episode will air on February 3rd. In the meantime, Carano has several other projects going on, including 'In the Blood,' which has been described as a female-version of the film 'Taken.'

New Series 'Outlander' + Trailer

Caitriona Balfe (as Claire Randall)
The 'Outlander' books are finally coming to the small screen this year and it looks super cheesy. It's being marketed as a SciFi/fantasy, but I smell soap. Author Diana Gabaldon debuted the first novel in 1986 as a romance series for goodness sake. So I'm on the fence about this one, as it's a love story. I don't like love stories, especially a cheesy one. Admittedly, I have a soft spot for 'Pride and Prejudice,' but that's it! I don't go to the movies on Valentine's Day. Yawn. But the timey wimey aspect of 'Outlander' interests me.

'Helix' Review + Spoilers

SyFy's much anticipated new show 'Helix' debuted Friday, January 10th. Like many others, I am very excited to see "SCIENCE FICTION" return to the SyFy Channel. The SyFy Channel has pretty much become a joke with all of its reality programming and wrestling. So 'Helix' is a step in the right direction and a welcomed relief to the winter television hiatus. The SyFy Channel smartly placed the first three episodes of 'Helix' on demand... and so far so good. The show hasn't "wowed" me yet, but it's intriguing and entertaining. I am holding may applause, because 'Helix' hasn't quite found its legs and is still a bit shaky, but we are only three episodes in. So 'Helix' has a couple more episodes to hook me or push me away.

Sci-Fi Art by Mike Wrobel

Today I came across a rather cool 'X-Files' collage by Artist Mike Wrobel of Deviant Art. Wrobel has done some rather unique pieces of some of my favorite shows (excluding 'True Blood,' which I now hate watch). 'Game of Thrones,' 'Alien,' 'True Blood,' 'Breaking Bad,' and 'The Walking Dead,' just to name a few. You can see all of his collages here. I've listed my favorites below. Wrobel has reminded me that I need to rewatch 'The X-Files.' Now with companies like Netflix and Amazon, streaming is easier than ever. I recently rewatched all of 'Battlestar Galactica' and 'Supernatural.' It's nice to go back and rewatch your favorite shows from the beginning. Every time I rewatch a series, it's almost like the first time. Now that I'm a parent, my memory AIN'T WHAT IT USED TO BE!

BEHIND THE SCENES - 'Gravity'

George Clooney and Sandra Bullock - Behind the Scenes in 'Gravity'
Great directors make filmmaking look effortless. Most of time however, it's anything but. 'Gravity' is one of those "effortless" looking films that actually took A LOT OF EFFORT. 'Gravity' isn't a perfect film, but it's pretty close. It was certainly one of the best films of 2013 and a technical marvel. If you're like me then you always want to know "how'd they do that?" I am especially curious about how they make technically complicated films. It's a five minute video, but it's well worth the watch.

Peter Capaldi's First Day as the Doctor

Season 8 of 'Doctor Who' is coming to us in Autumn 2014. The date is rumored to be sometime in September. Going by past dates, I would guess the first week in September. New doctor Peter Capaldi is quoted as saying that he's a bit nervous. No worries Peter, first day jitters are completely normal. You're only taking over one of the most popular franchises in the world!
"New job, first day, slightly nervous. Just like the Doctor, I'm emerging from the Tardis into a whole other world." --Peter Capaldi

RIP Peter O'Toole - Film Icon

I simply cannot go any further without acknowledging the passing of film icon, Peter O'Toole. O'Toole was one of my favorite actors and starred in one of my favorite films of all time. I must say that I was stunned to learn that so many of my friends didn't know who Peter O'Toole was? Worse yet, they know more about Paul Walker, than Peter O'Toole. I say this, not to diminish Walker as a fellow human being, as everyone has value. You can see my write-up on Paul Walker here. But O'Toole was an actor for 57 years and had done countless films. O'Toole was not just an actor, but AN ACT-OR. He could read the phone book and sound posh. So I am still quite surprised that more people aren't familiar with his films.
