Peter Capaldi's First Day as the Doctor

Season 8 of 'Doctor Who' is coming to us in Autumn 2014. The date is rumored to be sometime in September. Going by past dates, I would guess the first week in September. New doctor Peter Capaldi is quoted as saying that he's a bit nervous. No worries Peter, first day jitters are completely normal. You're only taking over one of the most popular franchises in the world!
"New job, first day, slightly nervous. Just like the Doctor, I'm emerging from the Tardis into a whole other world." --Peter Capaldi
I have to admit I'm somewhat excited to see an older Doctor. The doctors of the modern era (2005 - present) have all been so young. Lest we forget, Doctor Who was supposed to be a cross between H.G. Wells, C.S. Lewis, and Father Christmas. There was time when all of the doctors were older, scholarly looking, with a touch of panache. Peter Capaldi fits that description nicely. When Peter Davison became the Doctor in 1981, he was the youngest doctor ever at age 30. Matt Smith blew that away when he became the youngest doctor at age 26.

Don't get me wrong, Matt was dynamic, athletic, and could turn on a dime. That's what so wonderful about English theatrically trained actors, they're well trained. Matt Smith has been one of my favorite doctors PERIOD, but what I love most about Doctor Who is that it's about the franchise, not the person. So here's to Peter. And so long Matt. You will be missed.

  3. You're right Mariah. There really isn't a good Doctor or bad Doctor since he always shines. I can't wait for the new outfit. Think they'll go retro like 8 or modern like 9?

My wife is in love with Matt Smith, so as sad as I am to see him go part of me was glad.

  5. Maurice-- I agree. They always seem to make such good choices, so I'm excited for Peter.

David-- That is too funny! Good riddance to Matt then right?

  6. Really nice post! I'm still on the David Tennant's years so I really can't speak to Matt, but I'm looking forward to catching up in time for Capaldi. His angry eyes are going to be the best. :)

  7. Katy-- I really enjoyed the Tennant years. Tennant was such a quirky doctor. Enjoy him. I was sad to see him leave.
