BEST & WORST MOVIES OF 2015 - PART 2, BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENTS

If you can imagine the previous post was even longer. I was originally going to make one large best and worst list, but it was just too long. So I decided to split them up into 4 parts. The first part was the best films of 2015. The movies on this list are typically films that have some redeeming qualities, but just didn't make the cut. These films are in the fair to middling range. Before I changed it to the biggest disappointments, these probably would have been titled, "Most Ok Movies." They weren't good and they weren't necessarily bad. So next week you will see my choices for the absolute worst/trashiest/should-have-never-been-made-films of 2015.

THINGS I LEARNED FROM THE MOVIES - PART 1

'Apollo 13,' 'Dangerous Liaisons,' and 'Poltergeist.'
Yes I am college educated, but clearly I didn't pay attention in class because most of my education has been through film and television. I have been marinating on this post for a while. I have made this list Part 1 because I could go on and on. So instead of one mammoth post, I will create a series of posts over the next few months. This may be a good idea for a blogathon, so if anyone would like to make their own posts about "things they learned from the movies," please feel free! The more the merrier.

My Top 10 Favorite Space Marines

The space marine is an archetype of science fiction. The quintessential space marine is tough, stoic, an alpha male (or female), off-world (sometimes on world), and always armed to the teeth. The earliest use of the actual term "space marine" appeared in 'Captain Brink of the Space Marines,' a 1932 'Amazing Stories' comic, which was a science fiction anthology. Steven Spielberg used this same material for his 1980s television series of the same name (available on Netflix).

The 17 Most Ridiculous Things on 'The Walking Dead' + Spoilers

Via Uproxx
I preface this post by saying that I really enjoy this show. In fact I'm a total fan girl. I've read all of the comics, including the most recent ones and I've defended this show to haters many times before. But even I have had to scratch my head and say, "uh, that doesn't make any sense." Most of these scenes are exclusive to the television series and were not in the comics. To be fair, it should come as no surprise that human behavior is complicated and sometimes non-sensical. People do stupid stuff in the real world, so why wouldn't they do stupid stuff in the zombie apocalypse?

Best, Worst, and "Ok" Movies - Part 1

December. Tis' the season. The season for the "Best, the Worst, and the just 'Ok' movies of 2013". The first week I typically highlight the Just "Ok" Scifi/Fantasy Films of 2013. The just "Ok" category is reserved for the scifi/fantasy films that weren't necessarily great, but they weren't bad either. They exist somewhere in between. These are the kind of films you watch only once, you kinda enjoy it, but you wouldn't necessarily buy the DVD. Note: For some reason there a lot of Superhero films on this list. Go figure? I have listed 15 movies that I kinda dig. I didn't love them and I didn't hate them. Feel free to agree or disagree in the comments

10 Reasons to Love Tom Hiddleston

Over the course of three short years, Tom Hiddleston has quickly become a household name and a fan favorite. Arguably, he is almost as popular with the fans as Chris Hemsworth, at least in the scifi community. Perhaps you don't know who Tom Hiddleston is. Or if you do recognize him, you know him as "that guy from 'Thor' and you don't know what all the fuss is about? If this is the case, then this post is for you.

There Be Dragons

Mother of Dragons' by Yama Orce (YamaO) at Deviant Art
While channel surfing this weekend I happened upon a movie with a dragon in it. This made me think-- excluding animated films like 'Shrek' or 'How to Train your Dragon,' I haven't really seen that many movies or television shows with dragons.

This in of itself would not be unusual, but we are seriously up to our eyeballs in werewolves and vampires. Why not dragons? Dragons are an essential piece of the fantasy-genre, yet so few films and television shows have featured them. In years past, special effects artists relied on claymation, animatronics, miniatures, or some poor guy walking around in sweaty costume, but now with the prolific use of CGI, why aren't there more dragons?

Most Underrated Scifi Shows!

Baltar (James Callis), Six (Tricia Helfer), and the man I love to hate, Ron Moore.
Sorry friends. It's been a while since my last posting. Scifi news has not been plentiful and I have been quite busy with personal matters. I hope to return blogging full force soon! Viva la scifi. In the meantime I've enjoyed lurking on other people's blogs.

Upcoming Sequels and Remakes

Alamo Drafthouse - Mondo Mystery Movie - Artist Jesse Philips
The sequel machine is efficient yet predictable. Make the original; churn out a few sequels; reboot; rinse; repeat. Sometimes they don't even wait for the sequel, they just go straight to the reboot, i.e. 'Superman Returns' and 'Daredevil.'
