Merry Christmas...And Don't Blink

Merry Christmas! I'm super happy to be done with final exams. I'm taking graduate classes and I just can't believe how busy I've been. Between grad classes, my little one, my husband, my job, and my other extracurricular activities, I haven't had much time to devote to this blog, but I am still working on my big end of the year "best and worst list." Please be patient with me!

Dueling Jungle Book Movies, Huh to Exodus Casting?, News, Cosplay + More

Benedict Cumberbatch has been cast as the voice of Shere Khan in the 'Jungle Book: Origins' film. I have to say...nice vocal casting. I can't think of anyone better cast, except perhaps the sexiest man alive aka Idris Elba, who has been cast as Shere Khan in a dueling 'Jungle Book' film. I would describe both of their voices as 'growly' sensual butter, so I'm not sure which one I will prefer. I suppose it's just a wait and see type thing. Disney is doing the Elba version and master physical actor Andy Serkis is directing the Cumberbatch film. That said, it's Cumberbatch's second time round playing a Khan, so things are looking up for him. But then again, Idris Elba is just so Idris Elba. I just can't. I can't choose. I'll take one of each please.

GG is Wonder Woman,! New Interstellar Trailer, Dr. Who S8 Set Photos + More

It's official. Gal Gadot is the sexiest woman alive...this week. Oh...my...goodness. She looks incredible as Wonder Woman. Admittedly, I'm super excited with the idea of Wonder Woman coming to the big screen, as most people who visit my blog can attest to, but Gal's pic as Wonder Woman is so exquisite it's just too much to bear. I didn't care to go to SDCC (San Diego Comic Con) this year, for various reasons, but if there's one thing that I'm grateful to #SDCC for, it's for a sneak peak at new films.

"Meh" to AMC, Yay for Apes, Dr. Who World Tour, Geek News, + Cool Stuff

Over the last few years AMC has gotten a lot of press for their creative television shows--mostly good. I've been actively watching 'The Walking Dead' since its inception and I've also read all of the comics. So I'm typically excited when AMC develops a new show. As a geek and a history buff, I'm drawn to shows like 'Halt and Catch Fire' and 'Turn.' I'm also drawn to watch anything with Lee Pace or Jamie Bell. So in that regard, AMC has effectively fooled me, not once but twice this year. First with 'Turn' and now with 'Halt and Catch Fire.'

'Doctor Who' Goodies

See Website
This week has been a busy 'Doctor Who' goodie week. I have come across three separate 'Doctor Who'-themed items that I just had to share! I've previously posted about a 'Doctor Who' bookcase, a 'Doctor Who' refrigerator (to keep your fish fingers and custard cold), a collapsible Tardis, and 'Doctor Who' miniatures. Today's 'Doctor Who' goodie is a Tardis Vortex door. I've seen lots of Tardis doors--too many in fact, but what makes this one unique is the painted vortex, which adds that extra flair.

Peter Capaldi's First Day as the Doctor

Season 8 of 'Doctor Who' is coming to us in Autumn 2014. The date is rumored to be sometime in September. Going by past dates, I would guess the first week in September. New doctor Peter Capaldi is quoted as saying that he's a bit nervous. No worries Peter, first day jitters are completely normal. You're only taking over one of the most popular franchises in the world!
"New job, first day, slightly nervous. Just like the Doctor, I'm emerging from the Tardis into a whole other world." --Peter Capaldi

Easter Eggs in Dr. Who 50th Anniversary

WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW.

One enterprising 'Doctor Who' fan has compiled a list (from multiple Whovians) of not one, but 35 Easter eggs from 'Doctor Who's' much anticipated 50th anniversary episode. For those folks not up to date with their techie lingo, an "Easter egg" does not mean a hard boiled colored egg left in a garden for little children to find. In this instance an Easter egg is an intentional "inside joke" hidden within a movie, a video game, or in this case a television show.

I love cosplay. I love Dr. Who even more. So the combination of the two=awesome! Little Katie is too cute with her Dr. Who cosplay. In honor of the soon to come 50th anniversary, her dad Todd dressed her up as all 11 of the Doctors! See the rest here. Note: Neither Katie or her father are in any way related to me, but they seem to be a really cool family! Enjoy and Happy Halloween!

Daleks, Daleks, and more Daleks describe Doctor Who's Season 7 premiere. Show runner Stephen Moffat has teased that the Daleks will be the worst we've ever seen and include "every Dalek known to man." Doctor Who v. Star Trek Crossover Comic - Finally!

Star Trek: TNG/Doctor Who: Assimilation #5 (Scott & David Tipton with Tony Lee. Art by J.K. Woodward)
The Wikipedia entry has a good synopsis:
Star Trek: The Next Generation/Doctor Who: Assimilation2 is an eight-issue limited series comic book written by Scott and David Tipton, with art by J.K. Woodward. The series will be published by IDW Publishing beginning May 2012 and is a cross-over featuring the science-fiction series Doctor Who and Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Assimilation2 sees the Eleventh Doctor and his companions Amy Pond and Rory Williams encounter the crew of the USS Enterprise, joining together to stop an alliance between the Borg and the Cybermen.
A Comic Book Blog has a great review of the first edition. The Comics are about $3.99 each and I believe the first few issues have already been made available. This is a must read!

Build Your Own Tardis?

Thirdhandworks.com
I'm a sucker for a tardis. You can stick a tardis on just about anything and I'll think it's cool. Which is why I greatly admire those who can build and create things with wood. Unfortunately, I am not one of them. My handyman skills are limited to paper products. Folding paper--this I can do.

The Night Before "Who"

There is nothing I hate more than seeing Christmas trees in retail stores in October. Let me celebrate Halloween, please. I saw one store roll out their Christmas trees in September, effectively giving us four months of Christmas. I don't mean to "good ole' day" you, but back in the good ole' days, we didn't put our Christmas tree up until the week of Christmas, sometimes even on Christmas Eve. You'd wake up to presents under the lit tree, which you put up the night before. That was the whole point. Oh how far we've come.

Dragon Con 2011 - A Photo Diary

Hi all, I hope everything has been going well in the blogosphere.  I've been in Atlanta at Dragon Con for the last few days. Needless to say it's been awesome. I really enjoyed this year. Please check out our pics and stories below. This year it was a family affair. I went with my husband, two half-sisters (one from my mom's side, one from my dad's side), aunt, and cousin. Being surrounded by my family made Dragon Con even more enjoyable. I highly recommend going at least once.
